The year was 1903. The 20th century was just beginning and its promise was rich and deep. That was the year that George Smith, then a detective with the Dallas Police Department, saw an opportunity to provide a rapidly growing city with a new service. He founded Smith Nightwatch to help Dallasites protect themselves and their property. He didn’t know that his business would remain a successful enterprise well into the 21st century thanks to succeeding generations of his family. SMITH continues as a family-owned and operated company, giving it the distinction of being the longest operating family-owned private security firm in the United States, as well as the largest in Texas.

Of course, those 100+ years have seen a lot of change. And SMITH has changed with it. The fourth generation of the SMITH family is now running the company, which has expanded several times. While security remains an important component, the family added SMITH Personnel services more than 30 years ago. The newest arm of the family business is SMITH Electronic Security, which is a complement to the company’s security heritage.

Behind the various components of the business is the constant of unwavering customer service. We provide the kind of personal experience that only a local, family-operated business can offer. The longevity and growth of our company is a result of referrals made by satisfied customers. Our business model is based on solid work ethic, integrity, and our dedication to provide our customers with the best service possible.

SMITH Protective Services is a fully licensed security service provider through the Texas Department of Public Safety-Private Security Bureau (C-00217), as well as a dually licensed training academy (F-00127) and private investigations firm. Our management team consists exclusively of licensed security managers who stay current on advancements in our industry, allowing us to constantly improve our services.
